August 16, 2023, On Wednesday morning, thousands of enraged men from the Jaranwala Teshil (District Faisalabad) and adjacent areas headed to the Christian Colonies in the area, with the intention of lynching the individuals accused of blasphemy. Some locals had accused two brothers of desecrating pages of the Holy Quran, which were allegedly found near a house at Cinema Chowk in Jaranwala, Punjab.

They set fire to the several churches. The mob then proceeded to attack houses in the Christian Colony. Mosques' loudspeakers were utilized to incite people, and the bloodthirsty mob demanded the arrest and surrender of the accused to avenge the alleged blasphemy.

According to a Government official report 19 Churches and 89 houses were burnt to ashes.

Christian families were forced to flee from violent Muslim mobs who were seeking to harm.

This kind of rioting, vandalism, and rampant destruction is not new. They were in Gojra, Joseph Colony, Shahdara, Kasur, and Youhanabad . The damage to Christian lives remains irreversible.

Christians are not only “soft targets” for the militancy, but also victims of socioeconomic and political exclusion.

National Council of Churches in Pakistan (NCCP), vehemently condemn any acts of violence, discrimination, or persecution targeting Christians or any religious minority.

NCCP demand immediate & stern action against the culprit involve in this heinous act and provide security and shelter to the Christian community in the area.
