In response to the news of the brutal attack on Mr Nazir Masih, and the subsequent destruction of homes and businesses owned by the local Christian community in Sargodha, Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches issued a following statement:

thousands of enraged men from the Jaranwala Teshil (District Faisalabad) and adjacent areas headed to the Christian Colonies in the area, with the intention of lynching the individuals accused of blasphemy.
