Sargodha - Tragedy struck once again as religious intolerance and violence flared up in Sargodha that lead to the brutal torture of Nazir Masih, a Christian labourer and the subsequent destruction, homes, and businesses owned by the local Christian community. This horrific event, spurred by accusations of burning the Quran.

The incident began when rumours spread that Nazir Masih had desecrated the Quran. Angered by these allegations, a mob swiftly formed, driven by islamist radical within the community. Despite the lack of concrete evidence, the mob brutally beat Nazir Masih and stoned him to death. The violence escalated further as several churches were set ablaze, Christian-owned homes and businesses being looted and torched. Families fled in terror, seeking refuge from the chaos.

This tragic event is not an isolated case but part of a disturbing pattern of persecution that Christians far too long in Pakistan.

National Council of Churches in Pakistan condemn these inhuman acts of violence in strongest words. We believe the security apparatus & the state have completely failed to provide any protection to the Christian minority.

Nevertheless It is the duty of the Government to take stern immediate and effective action to protect all christian and bring culprit to justice.

NCCP is actively in contact with local church leaders in Sargodha to coordinate efforts to rescue and support the affected community. Our immediate focus is to provide relief to the families fled in terror and assess the extent of property and business losses. We will share a detailed report in due course.
