77th Independence Day: a brighter and more inclusive future

Message from the General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in Pakistan on the Occasion of the 77th Independence Day of Pakistan - 14th August 2024

As we celebrate the 77th Independence Day of our beloved Pakistan, we are reminded of the countless sacrifices made by our forefathers to secure a free and sovereign nation. This day holds immense significance for every Pakistani, and as Christians, we join hands with our fellow citizens in honoring the spirit of unity, faith, and discipline that forms the foundation of our country.

The Christian community has always played a vital role in the development of Pakistan. Our contributions in the fields of education, healthcare, and social services have been significant in shaping the nation we proudly call home. From the establishment of schools and hospitals to our unwavering commitment to serving the marginalized, the Christian community has stood as a beacon of hope and service.

However, despite our contributions, we continue to face challenges as a marginalized community. Discrimination and the fear of persecution still haunt many of our brothers and sisters. It is imperative that the state ensures the safety and security of all its citizens, regardless of their faith. The protection of minorities is not just a constitutional obligation but a moral one. We urge the government to provide preferential support for the socio-economic development of Christians in Pakistan, ensuring that we can contribute even more effectively to the nation's progress.

As true patriots and faithful Pakistanis, we remain steadfast in our love for our country. On this Independence Day, let us resolve to work together for a Pakistan where every citizen, irrespective of their religion, can live with dignity, peace, and equal opportunities. Let us renew our commitment to building a nation that upholds justice, equality, and respect for all.

May God bless Pakistan, and may we continue to strive for a brighter and more inclusive future for all its people.

Pakistan Zindaabad!

With prayers and blessings,

Victor Azariah
General Secretary
